Taking The First Step

“He who has begun is half done.” –Horace

Sometimes taking that first step towards a goal feels like the hardest one. We can find many reasons that hold us back from taking that step:

“I’m too busy with work right now.”

“I’ll do it when the kids are older.”

“I have to prepare this or that before I begin.”

(I have a friend who wanted to get in shape before he started going to the gym!)

When we think about tackling a new goal (especially a big goal), it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. When we focus on the many steps it will take to get us there (to our end result), it can be enough to keep us from even starting!

Instead, look at your goal as a series of small steps. What is one step you can take before the end of the day tomorrow that will get you started? Is it a phone call? A little research on the computer? A visit to a store? Just one small step. That’s all. Before you know it, you’ll be taking another step…and then another.

Don’t let your dreams be swept under the rug because you never took that first step. More often than not, people in their 90’s don’t regret following their dreams; they don’t regret the chances they took…they regret not taking chances.

To your dreams!
