Sometimes we can feel as though our worth depends on outside factors. We feel it depends on how much money we have, how many degrees we hold, our job title, our looks, our knowledge, even how spiritual we are. There's nothing wrong with having more, being more, and doing more, but if our worth depends on it, what happens when it goes away? Each of us is worthy, special, and unique RIGHT NOW. You don't need to "add" anything to yourself to be good enough. Your value and worth are intrinsic...nothing can take it away.
Below is a cute little story that illustrates this point.
A speaker at a large seminar held up a $20 bill. He asked, “Who would like this $20 bill?” Hands started going up.
He said, “I am going to give this $20 to one of you, but first, let me do this." He then proceeded to crumple the bill up. He then asked, “Who still wants it?” Still the hands were up in the air.
“Well,” he replied, “What if I do this?” And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty. "Now who still wants it?” Still the hands went into the air.
“My friends,” he said, “You have all learned a valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Nothing I can do can change that. Like this bill, you never lose your value, your worth...no matter what happens to you.”
