Belief is perhaps the first and most powerful aspect responsible in getting what we want – or don’t want for that matter.
Take the placebo effect for instance. In placebo studies patients are given sugar pills and told they are taking a drug that will help their condition. It has been documented that the belief in any given placebo will produce the exact same physiological effects of an actual drug. Our bodies do not distinguish between a drug's actions and side effects and our mind's expectations of its actions and side effects. This has been proven to such an extent that placebos cannot be used as a true control in drug trials. And patients given placebos have proven time and again that through their belief, their minds have told their bodies to heal themselves without actual pharmacological or surgical intervention.
This is proof that it’s really our belief concerning what’s happening that truly determines what happens.
